RMS
Titanic
I have
started building a manned model of the RMS Titanic. It is 16 feet long and 3
feet wide. It is not exactly to scale. I have made it wider than it should be
for stability reasons. To scale it would be about 20 inches wide and
that’s just too narrow for this type of use. The plan is that it will
hold 3 or 4 people, be trolling motor powered and have the look of the real
thing from a distance. Judging by the looks we’ve gotten tooling around
in our paddle wheel boat and the manned model Tug Boat, this thing ought to
really draw a crowd!
Here
it is as of 1-14-09. I have completed the bulk of the hull and part of the
superstructure. No funnels or aft section as yet (part of it is just hanging
over the stern), but I’m getting there! Note the model of it sitting on
the deck a couple of feet in front of me. It’s my son’s and
I’m using it as a reference. Yes, it will fit out of the basement! I
already checked that out. ;-)
